General Questions

What does 100% fruiting body means?

A lot of the mushroom supplements on the market usually consist of mycelium on grain, mushrooms, or a combination of the two.

At KÄÄPÄ Mushrooms, we use only the fruiting bodies of mushrooms. This means only the mushroom itself, we do not blend grain or mycelium in our products.

Is there alcohol in your tinctures?

Yes, some mushrooms require alcohol extraction and there is residual alcohol in these tinctures. For those mushrooms that do not require alcohol extraction, ethanol is added in the tincture for preservation purposes. All the finished products contain 25% alcohol. With alcohol content more than 23%, the Compounds of Interest and the product quality stays intact for up to 3 years.

What is Ultrasonic Assisted Extraction (UAE)

KÄÄPÄ Mushrooms employs industry-first Ultrasonic Assisted Extraction (UAE) standards, as this new technology increases the effectiveness and efficiency of the extraction process.

UAE also allows us to extract at lower temperatures which is beneficial for heat sensitive compounds.

Oxalates in Chaga extract

Chaga has a high observed oxalate content (~5-14g/100g) compared to other natural sources. For reference, spinach, rhubarb and other tough fibrous greens have 500mg-3g/100g oxalates. It’s all about the dose and form of Chaga consumed. Dosage is the difference between nutrition, medicine and poison. If we compare an average daily dose of spinach and chaga powder, we are comparing grams to milligrams. A serving of spinach could be20-100g, compared to a1gserving of Chaga extract. Our maximum daily dosage in our GRAS dossier for safety consumption of Chaga is1.31 grams. Comparing this to common foods consumed in everyday diet quickly yields a nullified argument for the safety of Chaga oxalates, given the much lower dose when consuming Chaga extract or any other medicinal extract for that matter.
